Ruth Roman (n e Gold) was born at Lynn located in Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Lithuanian Jewish immigrants Mary Pauline and Abraham Roman. Her father, a carnival barker, was killed as a young child, forcing her mother to help support the family by working as a waitress and cleaning woman. Ruth was raised in the poor Boston Tenement area in Massachusetts. She was a student in Boston. After only two school years, Ruth left to pursue the acting career. Her path was not without obstacles. In New York, her first job involved posing stills for crime magazines. acting work she longed to do was abyssal. Then in NYC, she worked at a bar as the check-in lady before resigning before moving to Boston. There, she made the ends meet by working by working as an usher in the morning, while at night performing with the New England Repertory Company, her first regular acting gig. Also, she studied drama. She later graduated from the Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
